Stewards of Children and Strengthening Families: Practicing Prevention in Ohio

The reduction of child sexual abuse occurs through adult-based education and awareness. The Stewards of Children curriculum is appropriate for staff and volunteers of child-serving agencies, organizations and programs. It is also appropriate for parents. This workshop will examine the foundation and format of the Stewards of Children and learn about the collaborative efforts of the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund and the Ohio Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers to implement a statewide child sexual abuse prevention initiative. The second portion of the workshop includes an overview of another best practice, Strengthening Families. Participants will understand the role early child care settings can have in contributing to the wellness of children by building upon the resources and strengths of parents and the community. Learn how Strengthening Families was initiated in one Ohio community where child abuse and neglect reports were increasing.
